YardSprout is pleased to announce that we were recently signed on as the pilot organization for the Town of Carrboro’s new Adopt-a-Planting Bed program, based off of the existing Adopt-a-Highway program.
YardSprout has adopted a 5′ x 40′ strip of greenway at the corner of Hillsborough Street and West Main Street in Carrboro, NC, right across from the Looking Glass Cafe. We’ve re-purposed this previously town-maintained planting bed to include an exciting array of native pollinator plants, such as little leaf sage, black-eyed Susans, pink cheddars, lamb’s ear, various species of yarrow, and more.
Our intention in planting a pollinator garden is to attract native pollinators such as bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and flies, who will then pollinate local food-producing species of plants and increase local food production. Not to mention, the sweet-smelling, colorful flowers benefit humans, too!
Our vision is to help spread this initiative to other towns across the U.S. Modeled on the Adopt-A-Highway program, Adopt-a-Planting-Bed or Adopt-a-Garden programs can help cities go green with the support and active involvement of neighbors, volunteers, businesses, organizations, and experts.
